POP-UP RESIDENCIES

Musicians, creative writers, poets, performers, visual artists and creators of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply!

GreenHill’s Pop-Up Residency is a 10-day program in which selected NC artists to create and showcase their works in the studios. A Pop-Up Residency is perfect for the artist who enjoys the interaction with visitors and likes to engage in active conversations about creative practices. Our goal is for the artist to be energized by the interactions and for the visitor to deepen their experience at GreenHill and help them make connections between the works in the gallery and an artist’s creative process.

Pop-Up Residency is a competitive process with applications accepted on an on-going basis. Materials stipend of $200 is provided for each selected artist as well as access to some of the resources of the studios.

CURRENT/UPCOMING POP-UP RESIDENTS

Sarah George-Waterfield | February 22 - March 1, 2019

A Midwestern transplant to North Carolina, Sarah George-Waterfield made her way to Chapel Hill. After graduating from Vanderbilt earning degrees in English, History, and Political Science, she joined the Peace Corps as an Environmental Extension in Mali. She is currently working on an alternative dissertation that highlights fabric, cloth, and textiles in contemporary multi-ethnic literature. She’s creating an art installation from texts and textiles, exploring how memory, gender, kinship, and labor get lodged in warps and wefts. Sarah says, “as a new artist and doctoral candidate in English at UNC-Chapel Hill, my art interrogates the relationship between narrative, memory, and textile work in contemporary novels through sculpture, garment creation, and textile collage.”
