POP-UP RESIDENT RICHARD CREIGHTON

Richard Creighton is an artist living and working in Greensboro, NC where he is a member of the 205 Collaborative. Richard has extensive experience in the arts as a graphic designer, professor and creative director. Recently Richard taught Book Arts at Hood College in Frederick, Maryland teaching students basic and advanced bookbinding techniques. Richard’s professional experience as a bookbinder influences his work as an artist.

Richard says about his work “I strive to create a synthesis of modern technology and old-world craftsmanship, combining computer-aided design and hand-set type, photoengraving and hand-fed presses, evoking a time when human hands actually touched each and every page of printed material. This project is ideal in that it displays different techniques, materials, and media, providing an ever-changing opportunity for the public to see several different materials and techniques used by Book Artists.”

During his residency in The ArtQuest Studios, Richard will be producing a medium-sized book about the Moon that will include illustrations, watercolors, mixed media painting and prints. He will be demonstrating a variety of media, such as dry pigments, stamping and calligraphy, and will have materials available for visitors to assemble their own books.  Visit Richard in The ArtQuest Studios February 22 – March 3, 2017 and see his completed book during First Friday March 3.

Follow Richard's process and stay up to date on his project at his blog here: Ten Days Under The Moon.
