When the new downtown Greensboro Arts Center opened in 1979, Green Hill Art Gallery moved from the United Arts Council’s Sternberger House to 7,000 square feet of gallery space.  With this increase, Green Hill was able to substantially expand its existing programs for both exhibition and education and initiate new programs.

This move not only meant much more space for Greenhill, but also special features, like soft white wall carpet for easy installation and removal of works and track lighting for flexibility. To encourage art programs in the area schools, there was also a student gallery, 150 square feet of exhibition space, open to the public and private school students in Greensboro and Guilford County.
