1986 was Green Hill's first year:
- to receive $11,646 in funding from the Institue of Museum Services, a federal agency. There were only 14 North Carolina institutions to receive this operating support grant and Green Hill Center was a first-time recipient receving a full request.
- to receive a critical review of an exhibition in a national art magazine, "The New Art Examiner."
- of involvement with video as a teaching tool at the Center.
- of an educational hands-on exhibit on print making processes for school gorups.
- to receive national recognition through major network television coverage on the CBS "Sunday Morning with Charles Kurault," reating a national viewing audience of millions.
