Sweet and processed foods are the subject of works by artists Kristen Baumlier-Faber, Rachel Campbell, Stacy Crabill, Robin Frohardt, Ed Bing Lee, Jillian Ohl, Bethany Pierce, and Paul Rousso in GreenHill’s spring exhibition SWEET.

ASSOCIATED PROGRAMS

SWEET Opening Reception and First Friday

Friday, May 3, 2019 | 6:30-8:30 PM

Join us for the opening reception of SWEET with live music by The Minor Swing Band from 6:30-7:30 PM. Party like it's 1939 with Triad-based band members Keith Buckner, Jim Carson, Kevin Dollar who perform gypsy jazz influenced by Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli across North Carolina. Suggested donation. Sweet treats and cash bar. 

 

Friday Night Studios |  Focus on Food

Dates:  Friday May 10, 17, 24, 31 June 7, 14, 21, 28 and July 12  | 5:00 – 7:00 PM

Join us for Friday Night Studios for health and nutrition workshops; create “my-plate” plates that will be decorative but will also function as a guide for creating a balanced meal, participate in Food Fonts, a project created by Kristen Baumlier, inviting participants to create letters using real food. In collaboration with Guilford County Cooperative Extension agents, participate in food preparation and cooking demonstration and provide nutrition education handouts to participants.  Admission is “Pay what you wish.”

 

Art & Dialogue: Designer Foods

Wednesday, May 15 | 5:30-6:30 PM

Nearly 60% of an American’s daily calories come from food that contains ingredients such as flavors, colors, sweeteners and hydrogenated oils, emulsifiers and other additives. Join GreenHill for a mock tasting trial to see how good your palate is with food scientists Dan Heck and Elliot McDowell.  Participants will learn more about how manufacturers utilize research to “design” flavors for foods such as soda, pizza and chocolate. Suggested donation for entry.

First Friday | Walk-through tour by Kristen Baumlier-Faber and Live Music by Stephanie Arcos

Friday, June 7 | 5:30-8:30 PM

Join us in the gallery for a walk-through tour of “Bliss” Kristen Baumlier-Faber’s installation on salty, sweet and fat foods.  First Friday with live music by Stephanie Arcos from 6:30-7:30 PM. Cash bar. Suggested donation.

 

Play with your Food, a food and art party for sweet-lovers of all ages

Saturday, July 13 | 4:00-7:00 PM

Join us for cake decorating demonstrations, still-life painting, vegetable carving, cupcake contests, Food Font workshop, bicycle smoothies, and more in the gallery and studios at GreenHill. “Pay what you wish” admission, or get in free if you bring a home-made sweet and share your family recipe.
