Collected at Collector's Choice - Selena Beaudry

We have been thinking about the 34 year history of Collector’s Choice, how many artists have participated (thousands!) and how many collectors started and added to their collection year in and year out. We have reached out to some of our friends who have purchased at Collector’s Choice to ask them about a particular work of art—we are posting their stories on our blog over the next few weeks. All of the artists referenced will be returning to Greenhill this year. Enjoy their post, and we invite you to become a collector at this years’ Collector’s Choice!

I was struck by this painting, first, because of the unique color combination. The green was muted and conservative while the reds and the oranges provided an interesting contrast. It was conservative but also avant garde.  It also worked very well in our bedroom. The title caught my attention, too. It says exactly what I see in the painting--but in a way more powerful than a photograph.

I like and collect art because the paintings my wife and I buy tell us a story. They evoke some place we have been or something that we have experienced. Art becomes very personal to us. As opposed to other more literal things original art engages more of our senses and experiences and makes where ever we put it more exciting. Art adds an enjoyable complexity our house. We gravitate toward more modern styles, but nothing too crazy. Just wish I could buy more.
