1978 - Green Hill and Greensboro Junior League Join Forces

For the first time, Green Hill Gallery and the Greensboro Junior League joined forces, initiating a partnership that has spanned 36 years. The two organizations coordinated a volunteer program, called Artists-in-the-Schools, or AIS. The program was developed to offer artist visits to fourth grade classes throughout GCS schools, bringing working artists to classrooms for lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on activities for the students to enjoy. Through AIS, students get the opportunity to find out first-hand what it is like to be an artist and to ask questions such as how they got their start and where they get ideas.

The AIS program is still intact today, making it one of our longest running programs and serving over 100,000 students. The impact that the AIS program has on students is evidenced not only by praise from teachers but also by the unsolicited stories heard in ArtQuest about 'this artist that visited my classroom' from students who had an AIS program in their school. Greenhill is proud to have made these kind of experiences possible for the past 30 years.
