Textile Monuments is an important exhibition of works by a selected group of North Carolina artists who are renewing the fiber arts. The exhibition will examine the multiple ways that objects made from fabric or fiber transmit experience - whether individual or communal. The artists, who include Keisha Roberts, Marguerite Jay Gignoux, Valarie Jean Bailey, Sherrie Wood, and John Skau among others, employ traditional techniques such as stitching, knitting, caning, weaving or quilting to produce innovative fiber textile works.

Textile Monuments is accompanied by a one-day public symposium on textile art and culture in North Carolina. Presentations will be given by artists, writers, poets as well as advocates for the cultural preservation of textile sites.
