Curated by Edie Carpenter, the show shines a light on five women abstract artists from across the state and is the first exhibition in 30 years to focus uniquely on women artists. This important project brings together approximately eighty major works of art from large scale paintings to small studies.
“Organized during Women’s History Month, NC Women Abstract Paintersoffers fresh opportunities to elevate the vital contributions of women artists in our state”, noted Barbara Richter, GreenHill’s Executive Director. “We’re seeking larger conversations around gender equity in the arts through the works of these outstanding women painters and programming that includes prominent national and state-level thought leaders. Susan Fisher Sterling, Director of the National Museum of Women in the Arts, based in Washington, DC and Valerie Hillings, Executive Director of the North Carolina Museum of Art, will bring vital perspectives from their respective organizations.”
Edie Carpenter, GreenHill’s Curator added “The NC Women Abstract Painter exhibition also offers unique opportunities for career development and advancement for our featured artists and the greater visual arts community. Weekly artist talks, portfolio reviews and workshops designed to facilitate professional opportunities are central to GreenHill’s mission.”
