Red Dog Farm
Red Dog Farm Animal Rescue Network is a North Carolina nonprofit established to rescue and rehabilitate neglected, abused, or otherwise unwanted animals in and around Guilford County, with a particular focus on domestic farm animals.
We interviewed Executive Director, Lauren Riehl:
What adoption opportunities are available now at Red Dog Farm?
We are still adopting our animals and bringing them in to our program as foster opportunities allow. However, we are utilizing best practices for social distancing, virtual meet and greets, etc. While we miss the in-person interaction, we are glad that we can still help the animals find their forever families!
Has there been more interest in fostering and adoption opportunities during this pandemic?
There has been an increased interest. With so many folks at home, many who were thinking about fostering or adopting decided now would be a great to add a new family member.
In your experience, how do pets offer comfort and companionship?
Personally, I have owned dogs my whole life. All of my memories, whether happy or sad, had a dog in them. They comforted me when I felt down. I taught them tricks when I got bored and petted them through more movies than I can remember. They have also been the ultimate friends.
How do pets inspire hope and wellness?
I saw a comment on Facebook that the real winners in this pandemic were the dogs who had their owners home all day now. I think ALL animals show us that life goes on, and we can adapt no matter what comes our way. To me that’s hope. As for wellness, walks are great for everyone! Studies have also shown that petting an animal reduces stress and blood pressure so they are good for your heart as well.
On a side note, as folks start to go back to work or resume a normal routine, don’t forget that it will take your pets some time to adjust back. If you have been home all day, remember to start with small increments away to help them readjust.
