SHAPING CHANCE
GreenHill is proud to present SHAPING CHANCE, a solo exhibition by multidisciplinary artist Chieko Murasugi from April 10, 2026 to June 27, 2026.
This mid-career retrospective comprises selections from the artist’s major series exploring gesture, collage, fiber art, painting, printmaking and will present all the works in her kimono series to date. Murasugi’s use of chance and randomization in the artmaking process will be explored by the artist during her talk on Saturday, May 30 from 2:00 - 3:00 PM.
Born in Tokyo and raised in Toronto, Chieko Murasugi lived in San Francisco for two decades before relocating to the Southeast in 2012. Her work has been exhibited nationally in galleries and museums including the Mint Museum, Weatherspoon Art Museum, CAM Raleigh, and Spartanburg Art Museum and is held in public and corporate collections, including Duke University, and the Cities of Raleigh and Durham. Murasugi holds a PhD in Visual Perception (Experimental Psychology) from York University (Toronto) and an MFA in Studio Art from UNC Chapel Hill.
