PAINTING TO PRESERVE OUR TEXTILE MILL HERITAGE : STEVE HESSLER

I have lived near Carrboro and worked in Burlington for over 35 years. The culture and the heritage of the textile mill era in North Carolina's history is all around us...right under our feet; mills, company stores, mill villages housing. I think it is beautiful and tells a story of the people of our region, the Piedmont South.

My first show at Greenhill featured a dozen or so small oil paintings of mill cottages from several villages in Chatham, Orange and Alamance Counties.

I was pleased to be invited back to give a talk about furthering the cause of mill village preservation by producing plein air painting events, and thereby enhancing people's appreciation for the simple beauty of the architecture. Over the years, my interests as an impressionistic representational landscape oil painter have broaden to include working boats at the coast and agricultural scenes. My artist website reflects this.

I look forward to exhibiting work in the upcoming 2013 Winter Show.
