Casey Allen’s mixed media paintings depict the secret lives of animals, connecting their plight with the human struggle. Her own small dogs figure often in her paintings. Allen’s expressive use of line to define wrinkled skin, goofy smiles or stern gazes conveys a sense of identification with her subjects, who are portrayed as heroes of contemporary allegories.
Casey Allen studied drawing and painting at North Carolina State University School of Design where she graduated with a Bachelors of Art and Design. Her work has been included in many exhibitions in North Carolina, as well as in NYC. She lives and works in Raleigh.

Ippy Patterson’s intricate pen and ink drawings with their fantastical forms are inspired by Jeffery Beam’s poems from The Elizabethan Bestiary Retold evoking animals both real and imaginary. Patterson’s rendering of scales, hooves, and hides recalls Renaissance artist Albrecht Durer’s famous Rhinoceros in its exacting detail and the sense of wonder she conveys.
Ippy Patterson will be present for the reading Beam’s poems on First Friday July 6. She is presently at work writing and illustrating her Boogyman Memoirs.
