Curator Picks - Holden Richards

On view in Analog are a collection of Holden Richards’ photographs of open lands, creeks, and rivers of Orange and Durham Counties near his home; which have been the subject of his photographic work for a decade. “I photograph places I have walked for years, with an insiders’ knowledge of what is beautiful,” he explains. His process is slow, perfectionistic, and deliberate. Richards says, “The images and prints are created using vintage large and medium format film cameras and printing and developing in the traditional wet darkroom. Using large 19th-century plate film camera creates a need for going slow for being intentional.”

Holden is a current Getty Images Contributor who has had is work featured print including Paris edition of Plateform Magazine and The Oxford American as well as appearing in corporate advertising campaigns through Getty. His work has been recognized and included in shows juried by curators from SECCA and the Mint Museum of Art among others. He was recently selected 10th Biennial of the Photographic Image Exhibit of East Carolina University in 2017.
