Animated! is an exhibition of works by contemporary NC artists who are inspired by or incorporate the animated image.

Curated by Edie Carpenter in association with artists Marc Russo of NC State University, Animated! features 30 artists who investigate the way animation has permeated our cultural landscape from comic book heroes to digital environments. The exhibition will explore sequential art from flip books to large-scale video installations such as Marc Russo's "The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse." In this work, the artist studied historical depictions of this Middle Age Biblical passage from the Book of Revelations before producing his computer generated narrative of Silence, Consumption, Decay and Death which creates a tragic pathos experience. Other forms of animation on view include stop-motion, anime, morphing, and frame-based art. The influence of animation on other art forms will also be explored in works such as mechanically-sound, inventive kinetic sculpture of Ryan Buyssens, the brilliant jewelry designs of Sarah Tector (influenced by female superheroes), or the imaginative and comic-influenced clay works of Ronan Kyle Peterson.
