ARTIST OF THE MONTH: SARAH TECTOR

MARCH| ARTIST OF THE MONTH | SARAH TECTORDiffused sunlight floods the work surface and metalsmithing tools are scattered about purposefully. Sketches of jewelry concepts and silly buttons cover the corkboards that line the walls, and tiny drawers are filled with trinkets upon trinkets. This is a place where magic happens. This is the studio of Sarah Tector.Sarah’s design philosophy is simple: less is more.“I prefer to let one element in a piece stand out creating mainly in sterling silver, gold, platinum and other mixed media. I specialize in custom made, one-of-a-kind, limited edition, and production pieces of jewelry and small sculptural objects.” -Sarah TectorSarah ...

NOVEMBER | ARTIST OF THE MONTH | WENDY ALLEN OF MISS FITTBy: Toni TronuThis weather confused month goes out to Wendy Allen of Miss Fitt, in Durham, NC. I chose Wendy because she takes a fun and imaginative approach to her art (and life). Her creative outcome is something really special while still being functional. When her box of goodies came in the mail I enjoyed trying EVERYTHING on. Best part? Her long scarves double as belts! Come on cold weather! I need to strut these fashionable mittens around town. Toni: Getting work “out there” can be a tricky task and sometimes it takes a lot of experimentation. It sounds like your first big break came when a local store ...

WINTER SHOW PICKUP IN ASHEVILLE, A BEHIND THE SCENES

ARTIST OF THE MONTH: SARAH TECTOR

Each year Greenhill does a fall pickup in Asheville to collect art for Winter Show (on exhibit from December 6, 2015 -January 15, 2016). Not only does this take a load off of artists during a busy season, but it also gives Greenhill a chance to stay abreast of what galleries in the area are doing. Communicating through emails and phones calls is efficient, but there is no comparison to meeting an artist in person. It is so nice to finally put a face to the artists that many of us at Greenhill spend hours researching. On left: artist Grant Penny On right: artist Heather Spontak and Laura Way at Odyssey Center for Ceramic ArtsDoing a pickup is a lot of fun, but it is also ...

OCTOBER | ARTIST OF THE MONTH | BRANDON CORDREYBy: Toni Tronu This month I am super excited to introduce Brandon Cordrey, a mixed media collage artist, living in Raleigh, North Carolina. His works’ content frequently focuses on information transfer, thinking of humans as data processing units. He earned his BFA from East Carolina University in Painting and Drawing and his work has been exhibited across the state of North Carolina and Tennessee.I chose Brandon because many people feel berated by the amount of information they have to decipher on a day to day basis. Not only is his work hyper-relevant, but it seems to express these issues through a layered canvas with ...

Music and NC Art: First Fridays at Greenhill
08/17/2015
ARTIST OF THE MONTH: SARAH TECTOR

We all consume art. ‘We’ being the viewers and the listeners; ‘art’ being physical, audible, and theatrical. When combined, the experience is not unlike the superhuman force heroes create when their powers combine (think, The Avengers). With Greensboro’s August First Friday, Greenhill once again opened its doors to the public, inviting the curious and the wandering into its gallery, see some art, enjoy some snacks, and have a good time. But come 6:30, the atmosphere changes. Dramatically.Bodies start moving. Toes are tapping. People are moving to a quick swift beat. For a magical hour, the gallery becomes a cozy concert hall decked out in artist work, the latest ...
